What is Abundance?
əˈbʌnd(ə)ns: to have a plentiful amount of something. Whether it is love, time, career, family, success, money, it can be an inumerable manner of things. What is it that you want to have more of in your life?
“where attention goes, energy flows.” – James Redfield
Words associated with abundance that we commonly hear:
- gratitude
- awareness
- manifesting
- goals
- desires
- passion
Abundance a simple equation – Awareness + Gratitude = Abundance
An amazing thing happens when you focus your awareness on the things you already have in your life… you notice that you have more! How brilliant is that! Gratitude helps you to see that what you want in life is already yours. Creating a feeling of freedom and liberation from the constant pull of expectation and desire.
Practicing Gratitude and finding Abundance
Recently I was given a beautiful journal. Well, actually, it’s a cheeky little gratitude journal, one the likes of which I hadn’t seen before…

See what I mean? A bit cheeky and this suits me perfectly. I can’t recommend this book enough. Each page has a beautiful quote and space to right how you are feeling and focus on something you are grateful for. At first I wanted to focus on the little things I could feel grateful for. Like, how grateful I was that I had super warm socks!! We all have to start somewhere and for me this was great. And just by feeling grateful for my socks, my feet felt warmer! My heart felt a little lighter. It helped to focus on the small things that made up my everyday life that I take for granted. And it grew from there… How lucky I was to have these clothes; my job, to be able to buy my clothes!; and it kept getting bigger. Life felt just that little bit more beautiful, through this simple gratitude practice my attitude changed! I stopped noticing the times life threw snowballs and only saw the snowflakes!
The opposite of abundance is scarcity
If you withdraw into yourself with a despairing attitude – “I don’t have enough [insert that which you ‘think’ you lack]” it will always feel that way. You are focussing on what you don’t have in your life right now. This hideous and insipid stealer of joy is commonly referred to as the “scarcity mindset”. It stops you from noticing all the amazing things that you actually DO have in your life right. So you have a job that you hate – at least you have a job, right? Cultivating a sense of gratitude not only helps you to feel better about your life, about yourself, but encourages you to be more empathic and to feel more compassion for those around you.
